Do You Want Fast Weight Loss Or Weight Loss Forever? Can You Have Both?

So, when you think about you and your needs for a healthier future, do you want fast weight loss or long-term weight loss? It’s not unusual here for the majority of us to scream out a very loud…both please!

Yes, as the old saying goes…we want to “have our cake and eat it as well”…we don’t want to have to choose, we want both options!

And there my dear friend is where the problem lies, because it is not a simple thing to achieve both. Usually the diets that will produce fast or easy weight loss will not be sustainable in the medium or longer term. Sorry, but that’s just the way it is.

Ok, so weight loss program #1 will help you lose weight fast. The pounds come flying off and before you know it there’s 10 pounds less of you.

BUT...in many cases if you now stop doing what you have been doing and change back to the way things were beforehand, you run the risk of no further weight reduction, or even putting a few pounds back on. Equally if you continue with the same short-term diet, you are likely to see rapidly declining results.

Either way, you are unlikely to be very happy with the subsequent changes that take place after you have lost your initial 10 pounds.

So what can you do…can you have both fast and long-term weight loss?

According to many researchers you can have both…if you change your weight reduction program from the short-term focus to a medium term more sustainable program, once your initial goals have been met.

One person, two different weight reduction programs.

In fact, the recommendation we read about is to put in place three distinctly different weight loss diets… one for the immediate or rapid results, one for the continued healthy and natural weight loss over the medium term…and one for the longer term more sustainable results with a life-changing combination of healthy diet and exercise.

And the beauty is that you see short-term benefits on the scales, medium-term change as well and long-term change…and that’s got to be good for us!

So, sort out your immediate goals and get a program that will deliver on those. Then find one that will help with the medium term and finally add the longer-term plan as well. It will all add up to your success.

Are All Weight Loss Programs Created Equal?


The answer…is definitely No…all weight loss programs are not created equal.

And the reason is really quite simple.

Just as we are all different in our age, height, size, shape, metabolism, goals and way of life, there are also differences between all of the available weight reduction programs. And there needs to be, because the programs all have different goals in mind…different goals to suit OUR unique goals.

Some programs are about instant results…losing 10 pounds in 10 days, or losing 3 inches off your waist, hips or thighs (or all 3), or fitting into your swimsuit for summer, or dropping a dress size in 48 hours for your best friend’s wedding!

Some programs are about medium term goals like losing 50 pounds over the next 6 months, or losing only 20 pounds but keeping it off for a period of time…

And some programs are about providing long-term life-changing healthy-living solutions. These long-term plans are more concerned with making sure that you lose all the weight you need in a planned and healthy manner, and that the changes you make are changes for your long-term health.

So the programs are all different, have different purposes and will achieve different results.

For each one of us, with our own specific health goals, there is a separate group of possible programs.

You, for example, might be better off with diet #1, while we might be better off with diet #2, and our friend might prefer diet #3. It all depends on where we are with our weight and lifestyle at the time we are looking, and what we therefore decide are our weight loss priorities.

So, our personal health goals are what determines the sort of plan we should look for.

Should we try hypnotherapy or hypnotism for weight loss, or a body wrap, or some supplements?
How important is exercise going to be in our weight reduction program?
Will a carefully structured diet help or should we try a pill, patch or potion?
Do we want healthy and natural products?
What is it that is important to us when we choose a diet?

Our ultimate choice of program depends on what we are trying to achieve in relation to what the weight loss program will provide, and we need to match them up together for maximum success.

Weight loss programs are not all created equal, and that is really fantastic…because it gives us something we all need and appreciate…the freedom of choice.

So let us celebrate the fact, that when it comes to weight loss programs…one size does not fit all!





There Are Too Many Weight Loss Plans, Pills & Patches…
So Where Do You Start?


Do you think it's easy to lose weight?

To be honest you probably already think it isn't...which is why you might be looking for a weight loss plan to try and help you along. Problem is, finding an effective weight loss plan is just as hard, if not harder, than losing weight in the first place.

Sometimes, there's just too much information to go through before you can find a weight loss plan that suits you, and there are simply too many weight loss plans, pills and patches available…all of which will apparently solve all our problems!

So where do you start?

Take our friend Melissa. Melissa has always been on the heavy side but over the last couple of years she's piled on quite a lot of weight. Her doctor told her recently that she is bordering on becoming obese and that she ought to do something about it.

Now the doctor doesn't know Melissa as well as we do. We could have told him, for example, that Melissa doesn't really need to be told to go on a weight loss plan. She knows that already. She's tried diet after diet after diet but has never found one that still works for her after a couple of weeks.

She was real upset after her appointment with the doctor. He didn't really give her any specific advice on what to do, so she went online to try and find a way of achieving that elusive weight loss she so desperately wants.

Finding the online solution wasn't as simple as she had hoped, and she just didn't know which way to go -- there were plenty of weight loss plans, weight loss pills, weight loss potions & weight loss patches to choose from…but she got so confused with what they told her, that she didn't know where to make a start!

I guess this is one of the major problems about choosing any weight loss diet. Each diet company wants you to pick them, so they'll throw all kinds of information at you telling you how great their particular weight loss diet is. They'll also sometimes pick apart every other weight loss plan and tell you why those ones don't work, which really doesn’t help their case at all. And, if you read around a little you'll be told different stuff by lots of different weight loss companies.

It's no wonder Melissa got so confused. She ended up not knowing who to believe and which solution would be the best one for her.

So back to the original question…where do you start?

You need to know two things before you can decide on a weight loss program or plan…what YOU want from any weight loss plan you will take on, and WHAT the weight loss programs are ACTUALLY GOING TO DELIVER.

If you want rapid weight loss, then it’s pointless going with a plan that is based around long-term results. If you want long-term permanent change then a short-term fix may not be the best solution for you.

You have to match your wants with what the program promises to deliver.

And as anyone who knows Melissa will tell you, what she needs is a diet that isn't going to starve her. The weight loss solutions that have left her hungry in the past have never worked, and she'll be the first one to admit she has no real willpower when she's hungry. She also can't cope with fad diets that emphasize one food type over another as she gets easily bored. What she really needs is a low maintenance healthy weight loss program that will keep her feeling full (and happy!) but that helps her eat the right foods to take the weight off...and stop the pounds piling back on again.

Why Don’t All Weight Loss Diets Actually Deliver?

We could be wrong but we don't think anyone has ever taken the time to sit down and to count up how many weight loss diets there are to choose from.

If you are looking to lose weight and have looked into which weight loss diets to choose then you probably already realize that there are thousands of different choices to be made here. Choosing the right one can seem almost impossible.

The problem is, for many of us, that the choices we're given here are all based on different solutions. Some diets will propose a system of healthy eating combined with regular exercise, some will just say cut down on your portion sizes, some will change the food you eat and some will tell you to only eat specific types of foods. And then there are the diets that use replacement drinks and shakes and the ones that tell you that their diet pills will automatically get rid of your excess weight.

All of these diets, every single one, will give you advice that sounds medically valid and will tell you all about the people who've lost weight successfully on them. Just to make things even more confusing they'll also take every chance they can to tell you just how ineffective or useless some of the other diets are. It's hardly any wonder we don't know which route to take.

But, some of the diets around at the moment may not be good options for you. They might be great for your sister, or your friend or your neighbour, but they aren’t necessarily right for you.

Some will only give you short term benefits. Say, for example, you follow a diet that makes you eat just one type of food. Sure, if you only eat that one item day after day you'll probably lose weight.

But, what about when you stop? The pounds will probably just pile back on. And, some of these rapid weight loss diets could actually be dangerous to your health -- they may be OK for a short time but I don't know if you should actually be using them longer term.

How do you decide which diet or weight loss program to go with? Why don’t all weight loss diets actually deliver?

Maybe you'd be far better off ignoring all the claims and counter claims and decide exactly what YOU want from a diet, because that’s the key point. Weight loss diets wont all deliver results… for you. They might work for one person but not another. They wont all work for everyone all of the time.

So, what are the essential elements that you want in your weight loss program?

Do you want your weight loss diet to be totally natural-based? Do you want to choose your own foods or have it all organized for you? How affordable does it need to be, do you want to be able to buy everything you eat at the supermarket? And do you want short-term or long-term results, or both?

The right weight loss diet will deliver for you if you decide what's important to you, and then seek it out in your diet plan. And as a result you will probably be able to lose those pounds more easily and permanently.

8 Simple Tips To Help Make It Happen!


I know that when you are facing the wrong side of an extra 20 pounds of unwanted weight it is hard to accept that weight loss is really quite simple…well, people who have never had to lose 20 pounds seem to want you to believe that it’s simple!

Really? Simple? What do they know?

Well unfortunately, yes unfortunately, they are right. In theory, losing weight is just as simple as gaining weight.

Here’s how it works.

Each day, just doing what we normally do, we use up a certain number of calories (even when we sit in front of the TV or sleep at night, we use calories), and each day we add a certain number of calories to our body by eating.

Therefore, if we use up more than we eat up, we will lose weight…and if we use up less than we eat, we will gain weight! That’s kinda like one of these unwritten rules of the universe. It’s just the way it is.

Therefore, these well-meaning people will tell you,
if you want to lose weight all you have to do is eat less and exercise more, so that you burn more than you consume.

It’s a balancing act, but if you can eat the right quantity of healthy food, and get some even healthier extra exercise… you will be able to lose weight.

We all like some help though, because we know from experience that it’s not quite that simple or easy…in fact some days its not even hard, it’s down right impossible!

So, what can we do to make sure that our healthy food, healthy exercise program will deliver the healthy weight loss we want?

Here are 8 weight loss tips that just might help:

BEFORE YOU START any weight loss program…

  1. Identify YOUR MAIN REASON for wanting to lose weight. I can guarantee you absolutely, if you don’t have a big enough WHY then you will fail miserably. And you can’t just have a simple, just-plucked-out-of-the-air “why”… it has to be a really, really good reason that will keep you focused and committed and on track. My reason is that I want to live long enough so I can take my grandchildren on an overseas holiday, see the smiles on their faces and feel the warmth of their hug when they say thank-you. And to do that I needed to be able to fit in an airline seat and be able to walk for more than 2 minutes without collapsing!
  2. Identify YOUR GOAL…exactly what you want to achieve. Be very, very specific. Write them down in detail and put a date on them. If it’s a short-term goal like losing 10 pounds then write… “Lose 10 pounds of excess fat from around my tummy, hips and thighs by 30 September 2009”. It’s even better if you can define what size your waist, hips and thighs will be once you have finished! Be very, very specific so you know exactly what you are aiming at.
  3. If you’ve tried losing weight before and failed, identify WHY YOU DIDN’T SUCCEED LAST TIME. Be honest. What was it that got in the way? Why is this important? Because if you know what went wrong last time then you can put things in place to stop it from happening again!
  4. If you currently get caught up with overeating or binge eating or eating emotionally, then IDENTIFY EXACTLY WHEN THIS HAPPENS…what time of day, week or month…what emotional state were you in…what had gone wrong that day. Write these down and think about what you could do to counteract the pressure or factor that led to you overeating.
  5. ORGANISE YOUR SUPPORT STRUCTURE. Put in place a support network of friends, family or workmates…or others that also want to lose weight…PLUS organize the things that you can do to prevent you from overeating, or distract you when you get cravings, or stop you from getting out to do some exercise. Make sure that your support structure is designed to help you, motivate you, support you and reward you when you take the right action.
  6. Identify the RIGHT WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM FOR YOU, your lifestyle and your goals. It needs to be a good match so that it is easier for you to understand, implement and follow through with. Spend time investigating before you make up your mind. It is absolutely crucial that it will work for YOU, otherwise you wont make it work!
  7. Identify the RIGHT TYPE OF EXERCISE FOR YOU. Seriously, this is VERY important! What sort of exercise would you enjoy most (and sitting on your butt watching TV is not considered a choice!)? When you want to lose weight, the best results will always come if you increase the level of exercise you do each day. So, what sort of exercise can you manage to do based on (1) your current level of fitness, (2) your lifestyle and spare time and (3) what interests you. Should you walk, run, cycle, swim, play golf or participate in a team-based sport? If you’re going to walk should you invest in a treadmill for home, walk around your neighborhood or the local park or take to the hills? Your choices are endless but it needs to be one or many types of exercise that you will enjoy doing.
  8. DEVELOP A PLAN. In relation to food, what will you continue to eat, stop eating and start eating. In relation to exercise, what will you continue to do, stop doing and start doing? In relation to supplements, vitamins and suppressants, what will you continue to take, what will you stop taking and what will you start taking. You need to know what you are going to actually DO.

Start out slow!!!

Focus on simply making some changes in your life and implementing your new ideas, new foods and new exercise…and the pounds will most likely come right off with the least amount of effort.

Mostly, REMEMBER YOUR WHY!

Because when things get a little hard, when that chocolate cake is screaming out to you “eat me, eat me”, or the weather outside is a little cool and you brain is going “you can miss one day of going for a walk”… that’s when you have to remember and focus on your WHY.

Healthy food & healthy exercise will give you healthy weight loss. If you just stay focused and remember your WHY!
